Platty3,

There is a lot to do and see in the Berkshires, but lodging can be a bit pricey. The Berkshires are known for thier cultural attractions, but there are many state parks and other outdoor activities here as well.

What time of year are you planning on visiting? Summer is the ';Peak season'; for both activities (such as Tanglewood and theater) and rates.

Living in the area, I am not too familiar with room rates. There are a few chain hotels such as Radison and Econo Lodge and Howard Johnsons, but you may find other local deals with nice accomodations. There are a couple of time share resorts by Jiminy Peak ski area in Hancock, MA... you may find rentals for unfilled weeks?

I would suggest contacting the Berkshires Visitor%26#39;s Bureau. They are a wealth of information and could help you narrow your search based on the time of your visit and what activities most interest you.
