Distances and how long to stay in each spot

Just wondering if anyone can let me know some travel times and the best way to get to each spot. We will be in Boston to start, and would like to see maybe Martha%26#39;s Vineyard and Cape Cod. I wasn%26#39;t sure how long to spend in each spot, and how to get from A-B-C. For our first trip (and could be ONLY for a long time) to that area, are there other palces we should be seeing rather than what I have in mind? I need to start boking hotels and want to make sure my nights are booked properly. We are thinking about a week stay. Thanks!!

Distances and how long to stay in each spot

It is a difficult time of year to enjoy the Cape and the Islands as it is very slow and cold but The Captain%26#39;s House Inn, (a B%26amp;B), in Chatham, MA is a very good place to lodge. I am reasonably certain that it is still open at this time of year. I am certain that you can locate its Website through Google.

You will need most or all of a full day to tour either of the Islands. Cape Cod can be toured in a day but you really should spend two or three days there to get a feel for the place.

The Islands are only accessible by ferry or air. For a link to the ferries, try:

I should have specified, we are going at the end of May. So is getting everywhere by ferry what you typically do to get to all these other places??

To travel to Cape Cod from Boston, you would rent a car and drive. Weekdays are best for driving. Avoid Memorial Day weekend unless you can depart from Boston early on Friday (or before Friday) and return after Monday.

For the Islands, ferry ports are at Woods Hole, MA and Hyannisport, MA depending on which Island you wish to visit.

Check the ferry Website for schedules and departure points and make your reservations (round trip) as soon as you know your travel itinerary as most days in the tourist season are sold out well in advance. It is easier to obtain ferry reservations without a vehicle. You can rent bicycles and cars on the Island but again reserve them well in advance.

Travel times by ferry are on the Website. Travel times from Boston to Cape Cod by car are 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on which day of the week you are traveling and the final destination on the Cape. You need about three days minimum to get a feel for the Cape and a full day or two on each of the Islands.

Another ferry line is a high-speed ferry line. Refer to: http://www.hy-linecruises.com

They also travel inter-island.

Another place to visit that is reasonably close to Cape Cod is the Newport, RI mansion locale. Refer to: www.newportmansions.com

If you belong to AAA, you can obtain detailed travel maps and triptiks from them.

If you stay in Downtown BOston and rent a car you can be on the Vineyard this time of year in less than 2 hrs

You should make reservations for the ferry

Steamship Authority

Check out the Omni Parker House and the conceirge can make all of your arrangements

IF you get up early you can spend the whole day on the vineyard and see it all

Most places are closed this time of year so its more of a site seeing the scenery this time of year on the Vineyard

Nantucket has a high speed ferry and you can get to Hyannis in 1 Hr and 1 Hr high speed to Nantucket and you dont need a car on Nantucket to walk around.

HIWALSH - RanchWoman mentioned that she is going at the end of May 2006.

Keep in mind that the Nantucket and Martha%26#39;s Vineyard ferries are *expensive* if you%26#39;re taking a car across. Like over a hundred dollars. And reservations fill up for the summer a few months ahead of time.

Unfortunately you need a car on the islands in May, unless you never leave town, spend money on lots of taxis, or are an experienced medium-distance bicycle rider. In the summer there are buses.
