Filenes going?!

I just read that this will be the last Christmas that Filenes will be open in Boston - this is terrible!!! I know I%26#39;m probably a bit behind the times on this one because think it was announced during the summer but I just can%26#39;t believe it! I love Filenes - it%26#39;s just such a big part of any visit to Boston.. Suppose there%26#39;s absolutely no way they%26#39;ll change their minds on this one??

Filenes going?!

Filene%26#39;s is closing. It will consolidated into Macy%26#39;s across the street. Filene%26#39;s Basement will remain in its current location, as it is a sep. Company.

I am very saddened by this as well. Rumor has it that it may be replaced with a grocery or a Target.

Filenes going?!

all becomng Macys or macy owned companies across the United States.

There is much debate..whether an upscale store like Nordstroms should come or a low scale store like Walmart. Many are upset if Target comes for the middle class.

Personally, i think an affordable supermarket or a Home Depot ( home bulding supply company) should come for the urban dwelleer..

they have them in Manhattan....

Would that a grocery moved in. Ever since the Stop and Shop on Cambridge Street closed there hasn%26#39;t been a convenient supermarket for folks in the downtown/Beacon Hill/North End.

What is so sad is that the Filene%26#39;s building is the more attractive of the two - it%26#39;s the one that should remain a department store and the other monstrosity should be pitched.

But at least the Basement will be around for a while longer.....

A Stop and Shop is opening behind the Haymarket stop (that areaish). It is in the works. It was part of the deal in getting Bread and Circus up on Cambridge St.

Personally, I would like to see a Middle Class Store in there. Copley is fruffy and close enough.

It%26#39;s terrible that the choice is going - it was great being able to pop between Filene%26#39;s and Macy%26#39;s and compare what was on offer. Glad to hear the basement is still going to be there though!
