Fab Restaurant

Hello,

I hope someone will be able to help. Good friends of mine are moving to Boston to live in February. I would like to get them a restaurant voucher for a really fab restaurant in Boston. I will probably get them ; so if anyone know of any nice fancy restarant could you please post the name?

I will probably get a voucher for $200. As I have never been to Boston (yet!); I don%26#39;t know any good restaurants.

many thanks.

Rosie,

Do you have any idea what they like to eat? It might be easier to make a suggestion.

Meanwhile, I have some ideas for ';special occasion'; places:

Smith and Wollensky Steakhouse

A very popular steakhouse with outstanding beef and seafood. Very expensive, but very good.

thanks so much for all the replies; this really is a great forum. I%26#39;m going to look those restaurants up. thank you. :-)

I went to Sel de la Terre on State St. near the Aquarium this past Saturday and had not only a great meal but a great dining experience thanks to Aldo the waiter.

$200 should cover a full meal with 1-2 bottles of wine (depending on price).

Here%26#39;s a website for Sel de la Terre

If you could specify either kind of restaurant (Chinese, Italian) or the general area around Boston where they%26#39;ll be (N, W, S) that would give people a handle on what to recommend. Always happy to help, you know!

Trip Report: 6nd-9th September 2005 (LONG)

We arrived in Boston from NYC as the first part of our big American Adventure in which we spent the whole month of September in the USA.

BOSTON

Tues 6th Sept

We drove from NYC to Boston, stopping en-route in Mystic Seaport.

After getting a little lost in the Boston one-way system, we finally found our hotel – The Copley Square which was very nice.

After changing for dinner, we wandered around Copley Square and along Newbury Street eventually finding a little Italian restaurant.

_________

Wed 7th Sept

We spent the morning on a whale watching tour with Boston Harbour Cruises. It was great, saw a few whales on the trip – finbacks, minkes and best of all, a humpback. We returned to the harbour and then headed off to Boston Common to start the Boston Freedom Trail.

Unfortunately, we didn’t leave ourselves much time to fully take in all the sites as it was getting onto 6.00pm by the time we finished.

In the evening, we ventured over to Quincy’s Market area.

_________

Thurs 8th Sept

We decided to leave Boston for the day and venture up through Massachusetts, Maine and into New Hampshire just taking in the scenery. We stopped off in Salem and visited the Witch Museum which was fun. Then we drove up to Portsmouth and then onto York to visit the beach, although by the time we got there it was overcast and a bit chilly.

We ate dinner in Portsmouth and then drove back down to Boston. We wasted a lot of time being on the slow road on the way up but came home of the interstate with time for a nightcap in the hotel bar.

_________

Fri 9th Sept

We left Boston and headed off to Cooperstown and Buffalo to visit Niagara Falls then flew to Las Vegas. From there we went to Yosemite, San Francisco, San Simeon, Los Angeles %26amp; San Diego before returning to the UK on 30th September.

Trip Report: 6nd-9th September 2005 (LONG)

Hi Barbiegirl,

You didn%26#39;t say what Italian restaurant you had dinner in on Newbury St., It wasn%26#39;t Davio%26#39;s was it? Do you remember? Although there%26#39;s another really good Italian restaurant on that street, from what I remember.

You certainly covered a lot of territory, that%26#39;s for sure! How did you like Yosemite, CA. Wasn%26#39;t that fantastic! I was there 2 years ago! I thought it was so beautiful seeing it all! Did you drive down to San Simeon to see the Hearst Castle by any chance? That%26#39;s what I ended up doing one day, I was on a mission to see it this time out there! I stayed in Carmel for 3 days and loved every minute of it then drove down to see it from there. What a magnificient road that Big Sur is! I couldn%26#39;t believe it.

Glad to hear about your trip, thanks for sharing it with everyone! When are you planning on returning!

  • Fantastic time in Boston

We`ve just got back to the u.k and we had a fantastic time.

We stayed at the Lenox which we can`t recommend highly enough -this is a great hotel with lovely staff.

Highlights of our time in Boston - seeing Boston from the top of the prudential, quincey market, aquarium,Boston common where my hubby loved feeding the squirrels out of his hands.

We also enjoyed Salem and Plymouth was just beautiful.

The transport system is so esy to use ,you don`t need a car at all.

The people are so friendly and helpful.

We fell in love with Boston and plan on returning again soon.

    Fantastic time in Boston

Glad to hear you had a good time. You certainly got to do and see a lot of things.

    Fantastic time in Boston

I%26#39;m glad to hear that you came across some friendly people. It%26#39;s my belief that every city and town has good people and @$$holes, and that it%26#39;s unfair to label certain cities in a negative light.

  • Long Term Parking Logan Airport

Anyone have any experience with the long term parking satellite lot at Logan.....going to give it a try......how often does the shuttle run and how much additional time do I need to add into the trip? Flying out of USAirways terminal.

    Thanks-

    Long Term Parking Logan Airport

I usually park in Chelsea, there are a bunch of satellite lots owned by private companies. My experience at has been that a shuttle is immediately available to bring passengers to Logan, it takes 10 minutes to get to the terminals, and the longest I have ever waited upon return for a pick-up shuttle is 10 minutes. Have a great trip!

    Davio's Restaurant

Is Davio%26#39;s Restaurant worth it? I have heard extremely good and extremely bad! I am looking for a romantic dinner for 2, with good food, good service.

    Davio's Restaurant

How much are you looking to spend? For a romantic dinner I would pick L%26#39;Espalier or Ajourd%26#39;hui. For romantic and more afordable, I%26#39;d try Tapeo.

    Davio's Restaurant

There are two Davio%26#39;s in Boston. The one in Cambridge at the Sonesta Hotel is not worth it. The one in Park Square is great.

For a romatic dinner for two, I would also recommend Icarus on Appleton Street, Locke-Ober on Winter Place, Spire at the Nine Zero Hotel on Beacon, No. 9 Park on Park Street.

    Art Shopping

    Hi All,

When I travel, I like to buy pieces of art to remember my trips. Small sculptures, painting, glassworks, etc. preferably by locals, but that is not a must. Is there some area of town that has a collection of smaller galleries all bunched together? I dont need/want huge $5000 wall-sized paintings. I am thinking more the couple hundred dollar range. Looking for unique stuff. Higher-end gift shops (not tourist stuff) might work as well.

    thanks in advance.

    Art Shopping

Depending on when you%26#39;ll be in town, check out one of the Open Studio events. The next one is December 3rd.

    http://www.bostonopenstudios.org/

There are several very nice galleries on Newbury Street that would be easy for you to tour through.

Best way from the airport to the Langham hotel. (not a taxi)

Which is the best way to get to the hotel arriving early afternoon on a saturday?

Best way from the airport to the Langham hotel. (not a taxi)

    YES!

By public transportation, take free shuttle bus from your airport terminal to Blue Line Airport stop. Take an inbound train (will say either Bowdoin or Government Center) three stops to State Street Station. Go up to surface, walk down Congress St. to the Langham. Trains run every 8-10 minutes on Saturday...ten minute train ride, five minute walk to hotel.

    Fare is $1.25

Best way from the airport to the Langham hotel. (not a taxi)

Don%26#39;t know how old/fit you are, but, after a 7hr flight, customs, ( photos and fingerprints) and presumably a fair amount of luggage, if you can afford it, take a cab.The T is very easy to use, but with luggage it takes on a whole new meaning.

    Good morning Randywakeman!

It%26#39;s true, when you have luggage with your from the airport? You won%26#39;t want to deal with these subway stations and trains. Hop in a taxi at the airport, the have people that will direct you right to the taxi stands. Check out this information here, it%26#39;ll be very useful for you to read this site before you land in Boston....

    Go to www.massport.com

Look for ';Quick Jump'; then click on Getting from Logan

Pick TAXI underneath ';Type of Transportation'; area.

Scroll and read the Meter Rates and then scroll further down and it%26#39;ll list the majority of the Hotels in Boston and what you can expect to pay from the airport

to each of these Hotels listed, not

    including the tip.

If you have any any type of trouble with any of the following Taxi%26#39;s that you need to make sure you ONLY step foot in to, then make sure you call the Boston Police Department%26#39;s Hackney Division at 617 343-4475 as soon as you can to make them aware of it. You shouldn%26#39;t have any trouble, especially at the Airport, the taxis are all different colors, brown and white, black and white, red, white and blue, you can%26#39;t miss them lined up at the taxi stand area.

    Boston Licensed Taxi Companies:

    Boston Cab, (617) 536-5010

    City Cab, (617) 536-5100

    ITOA, (617) 825-4000

    Metro Cab, (617) 782-5500

    Town Taxi, (617) 536-5000

It does depend on how much luggage you have, but unless it%26#39;s a ridiculous amount or you are physically unable to carry heavy things, taking the T from the airport is really not that bad at all. I%26#39;m a very physically weak woman, and although it%26#39;s no fun, I have no real trouble carrying heavy luggage filled with shoes on the T to and from the airport when I travel and the money it saves is well worth a bit of hassle. As a previous poster explained, the T line that services the airport also services your hotel, so you don%26#39;t even have to switch lines or anything.

Don%26#39;t forget the new silver line from the airport. It stops at all the terminals rather than you having to take a shuttle bus to the blue line. If you get off at South Station, the walk isn%26#39;t too far and is actually pretty nice through post office square. It would probably be faster than the blue line, but involve another couple of blocks of walking.

    More info at mbta.com

    Thanks for that guys.
