Dec 16-18, what's happening?

Husband %26amp; I are planning a ';tourist'; trip to see Boston for the 1st time. We plan to walk the Freedom Trail on Saturday (12/17), but I%26#39;m curious if there is anything special going on since it is the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party? I don%26#39;t want to miss something that a ';local'; might do to celebrate!

We are fine with cold weather %26amp; walking.

Thank you,

ES

Boston does have a reenactment on 12/11. sounds like it is a little to early for you. They do this every year.It is held at the Old South Meeting House. It is $5 or free if you dress in colonial garb. I have never been but, I heard it is a fun time.

Hi ejpsmith,

It%26#39;s too bad that you%26#39;ll miss the event by a week that%26#39;s being held on 12/11 showing the reenactment of the Boston Tea Party episode.

While walking the Freedom Trail, one of my favorite places to stop in to during the day is the Old State House. You can%26#39;t miss it, it%26#39;s not too far from the Quincy Market area. It%26#39;s the oldest public building in Boston, it was built in 1713. It%26#39;s got quite a history. It really is a stunning building on the outside, wait till you see it!

I remember very well when Queen Elizabeth II visited Boston and addressed Bostonians from the balcony in 1976. Every time I go by it that%26#39;s all I think of! It really was the most incredible thing to witness back then.

If you go in to this site:

www.bostonhistory.org It%26#39;s really quite good, of course it talks about all the history in Boston, it%26#39;s unbelievable reading it all! My mother talked about the Molasses Flood how it rose 15 ft high and traveled 35 MPH, how it killed 21 people and injured so many more, it killed all these animals too. When my mother first talked about it? None

of us believed this story! We really really thought she was making it up because she said to this day people that remembered it can still smell the molasses when they%26#39;re on Commercial St. in Boston over near the North End! I used to think they were crazy, but they swear you can! When my brother in law first met my sister and

heard this whole story, coming from Connecticut, he didn%26#39;t believe it AT ALL,

until he saw it in a history book! I%26#39;ll never forget it!

Another one they tell about is

James Michael Curley the Mayor of Boston in the 20%26#39;s, He was a real real character! My father, who would have been in his 90%26#39;s if he were alive, was absolutely crazy about this man. In fact, it%26#39;s funny, he was one of his Campaign Managers in Boston when he ran for office back then! My father had him right up on a pedestal and thought there was NO one; no one on the face of the earth like

James Michael Curley! I heard about this guy all my life! It says on this site ';James Michael Curley wasn%26#39;t born with a silver spoon; but born with a wooden ladder in his mouth which he proceeded to climb!'; You%26#39;ll see this characters statue right across from the Purple Shamrock Pub and Boston%26#39;s City Hall; right in the park where the Jewish Memorial is that you have to stop by to see, it%26#39;s absolutely a must that you stop here to read and view this Memorial by the way! It%26#39;s positively unbelievably beautiful the way it was built and designed!

If you go to www.explorenewengland.com it%26#39;s a really good site affiliated with the Boston Globe, it%26#39;s got events and attractions updated all the time so you can see what%26#39;s going on while you%26#39;re in Boston, so remember this site before you arrive!

In any case, you have a lot of places to go, people to meet,in such little time!

Enjoy Boston and have fun!
