What is the best street for bar-hopping???
Back Bay along Boylston Street wold be my first choice. Cactus Club/Dad%26#39;s/Pour House/Whiskey%26#39;s/Rattlesnake and then the Alley complex is at the lower end of Boylston across from the Common.
Faneuil Hall area has a ton of bars, as well.
Around Fenway Park, on Lansdowne St and Brookline Ave.
You could also check out the North Station area. Causeway runs north past the Garden and Canal, Portland and Friend Streets all radiate off of it. There are a good number of places along there.

Without knowing more about a person, it%26#39;s hard to recommend ';watering holes';, and as you may have agthered, Boston is not exactly a tea-totalling sort of place!
You should probably look for the local free ';rags'; on street corners... particularly near subway stations, like the Boston Phoenix, Stuff@Night, and the Improper Bostonian... there are many more, too! The popularity of places and what%26#39;s ';hip'; can change at a maddening pace, and vary from night to night... not to mention age and orientation.
My suggestion would to bar hop Boylston St.(Back Bay) one night and then the Canal St., Friend St., Causeway St. (North Station) the second night.
