We are a couple in our 60s and are planning on having 2 nights in Boston in December 2006
We had chosen the Boston Tremont but have seen a lot of bad reviews for it. Can anyone advise us on a reasonably priced, good, clean, central hotel. We would like to be close to transport %26amp; restuarants if possible.
TIA
Boston Hotel AccommodationThere is a boutique hotel that I have been hearing lots of good things about called the Bulfinch (a Clarion Collection) that opened a year ago. It is in a very ideal location and is reasonably priced for downtown Boston. The rooms, while a bit on the small side, are spotless, cozy, and modern. The hotel is housed in a historic building dating back to the early 1900%26#39;s, which was restored in 2004 and converted into the Bulfinch Hotel. I think that you would enjoy staying here as the hotel itself is nice, is in a decent location, and is not outrageously priced. I should also mention that there are quite a few restaurants near the hotel, including a steakhouse that is on the hotel%26#39;s premises. The staff members are very helpful and friendly (from what I%26#39;ve heard). I would highly recommend staying at this hotel and trust that you won%26#39;t be disappointed with ';hidden gem';.
Boston Hotel AccommodationI would recommend the Lenox. It%26#39;s an older, mid-size hotel right off Copley Square. There are many restaurants in the area, and is close to both Orange and Green lines of the subway. Shopping on Newbury St. is a block away.
It%26#39;s about a half mile from the Tremont, so if you%26#39;d chosen that for its proximity to the Theatre district, you won%26#39;t be too far off.
Others I would recommend are the Eliot, the Parker House or the Hyatt. The Parker House is close to the Freedom Trail, Quincy marketplace and Park St. Station... the most ';central'; of Boston%26#39;s subway stations.
The major chains are all represented in Boston, and are generally good bets, though I would recommend looking at their websites, and maybe rule out hotels whose main selling points are proximity to hospitals... they tend to be a bit out of the parts of town where the most interest to visitors are.
