Help hotels in or around Boston

We are going to Boston end of June. Family of 6. We are having a hard time finding a hotel that will take all of us in one room even with the suites. We have found a place called homewood suites in Peabody or Billerica/Bedford are either of these convenient to getting into downtown Boston? If not any place you would recommend us trying with a family of 6 and not wanting to use our rental vehicle.

Thanks

Hi Crazy,

Peabody/Billerica/Bedford are all suburbs north/northwest of Boston, about 15-20 miles out of the city. The Peabody location might be close to the Commuter Rail station, and the Bedford location, you%26#39;d have to drive to Alewife station on the Red Line and park.

Check with both hotels about shuttle services to the T. Driving into Boston from either location during the week can be horrible, especially if you try to go during rush hours.

Have you tried the Doubletree Suites hotel chain? They are also owned by Hilton. They offer large suites and some two-bedroom suites too.

The Doubletree suites on Soldiers Field Rd. would be the most convenient location, but the most expensive as well. The one in Dorchester is cheaper, but a bit farther from downtown. However, it%26#39;s convenient to the Red Line T station at JFK/Umass and you could get around easily without your car.

The least expensive choice, would probably be the Waltham location. It%26#39;s about 15 miles west of Boston, along rte 128 (not far from the Bedford Homesuites). They might have a shuttle service to the Red Line at Alewife, or the Green Line at Riverside, otherwise, you%26#39;d have to drive to either station and park the car.

Here%26#39;s the website

Crazyme, have you tried Embassy Suites at Logan airport? We stayed there one night last week and noticed there was a connecting door to the next suite. Our suite was for 2 and I don%26#39;t know if they do any larger ones, or whether you can put people on the sofas. It was a good hotel with plenty of space in the suites. A bit out of the way, being at the airport ( but no aircraft noise) but the T isn%26#39;t far away and it%26#39;s closer than the areas you mention. (Makes me sound as though I%26#39;m a local - I%26#39;m not! We just got back from our first ever trip to Boston and we happen to have driven past those places so I know how far out they are.)

Another alternative could be to look at smaller hotels and see if they would let you have exclusive use of rooms on one floor (preferably the top floor so you%26#39;re undisturbed). Haven%26#39;t tried this myself but it might be worth a go.

Happy hunting.

Also try the Residence Inn in Cambridge. It%26#39;s in a great location right by the T and right by the bridge for an easy and picturesque walk into Cambridge. My family has stayed there before in their one bedroom suites with a pull out sofa. I believe they have two bedroom suites also that would work well for you so you should call and check.

There is Residence Inn by Marriot in Stoneham, Ma. which is right off I93 about 7 miles north of downtown. There is a major commuter rail station just one exit north of the Inn in Woburn, Ma. which has train service right into North Station and downtown Boston. I would imagine the Marriot web site would have more specific information on this facility.

I apologize for my first post, it is actually a Courtyard by Marriot and it is in Woburn, Ma. which is the next town north of Stoneham. It is right off of I93 and there is a free shuttle from the hotel to the Anderson Transportation Center which has commuter train service to North Station in Boston. I hope this clears up any misinformation. Sorry.

Hi, On looking at Hotels we have booked into the Copley Square Hotel, This is in the centre of Boston and has a family suite, consisting of 2 rooms - one with 2 doubles (4 people) and the other with a queen bed in, this could be a possiblilty.

For budget purposes it%26#39;s hard to beat the Motel 6 in Braintree. Location is handy to the ';T'; (one block walk) and plenty of shopping and dining options close by.

I would recommend the Holiday Inn Express in Braintree. It is a very nice, recently remodeled hotel with friendly staff members. We stayed there in August 2003 and found it to be much better than we had expected. Each morning they serve a continental breakfast, which includes delicious cinnamon buns! I thought that the staff did an excellent job of replenishing the cereals, juices, etc., which was nice. My only complaint about the breakfast (and the hotel overall) was that the air conditioning was set to a very low temperature, making it a bit chilly in the room where breakfast is served. Also, please note that there is no pool at this hotel, but the hotel provides a shuttle van to anywhere within a certain radius of the hotel. We had them take us and pick us up at the nearby T station, which was very handy. When we were ready to head back to the hotel, we called the front desk and the van driver would promptly come to the T station within a few minutes to pick us up. The outstanding service that the staff at the Holiday Inn Express provide is one of the reasons I am recommending staying there. The price is reasonable and the location is great! Please consider staying there and let me know if you have any other questions regarding this hotel.
