Help! I am goin to be in Boston for 9 nights next June/ July and while my companions are at Hoop Mountain basketball camp,I get to stay in a hotel! I am fairly independent so would like to know what areas/hotels are decent. I need to be near a T stop and would also like to be in an area where there are bars/ restaurants etc. Ideally I would love a hotel with a pool/ fitness centre but am prepared to be realistic!!! Cheers.

If a fitness center and indoor pool are important to you, two good suggestions would be the Boston Marriott Copley Place, or the Boston Marriott Long Wharf.
The Copley Place Marriott has a great location right in the heart of the Back Bay, which is very safe, and convenient to all of the bars and restaurants and nightlife of both the South End and the Back Bay. Also, it%26#39;s right next to the Orange Line Back Bay station, and a block from the Green Line as well.
The Long Wharf Marriott is also a great location, right on the waterfront, across the street from Quincy Market and all the bars and restaurants in that area (there are too many to mention). Especially in June/July, this would be a fantastic area to be. The waterfront is beautiful that time of year, with cool breezes from the water, and beautiful views of the harbor. Also, this hotel is on top of the Aquarium blue line T stop, so that you can get door-to-door service from Logan airport, directly to the hotel on the T for $1.25. Also, this hotel is walking distance to the BankNorth Garden area where there are blocks and blocks of bars and nightspots. It%26#39;s a very active area and lots of fun.
Both these hotels have large indoor fitness centers with swimming pools. The only downside is that hotels in downtown Boston are expensive, and you are coming at the height of tourist season. You might have trouble finding bargain rates, but it%26#39;s worth a shot.
Both areas of the city are safe and have lots of foot traffic late into the night, so I wouldn%26#39;t be too worried about walking around there.

Hi,
I was looking at your question earlier today and had a question for you about it, but got distracted with something. In your question you say you%26#39;re going to be in Boston, but the Hoop Mountain Basketball Camp; isn%26#39;t it going to be Stonehill College in Easton, MA or at their other locations like Connecticut or Beverly, MA? If you could help us with more details that would be good for more suggestions other than Boston if that%26#39;s what you were looking for?
The boys are going to be at Stonehill College but as I am going to be on my own a lot! I would prefer to be in the heart of things. It also means that I can check out some fun stuff for the boys to do on their days off. Thats another thing, any activities, places of interest recommended for a large group (15) of boys aged between 13-15? They are dying to go to Six Flags so the name of a local coach company would be handy. Thanks so much for your quick reply, very much appreciated!
Two other hotels to consider are the The Colonnade Hotel which has a rooftop open air pool and a fitness center and The Sheraton Hotel which has complimentary use of a sundeck, sauna, and 18-meter swimming pool with retractable roof; the hotel also offers a fitness area, business center, and meeting rooms. Both are near to ';T'; stops and to Copley Square whihc has all the bars and restaurants that you would want and more. You can check the hotel reviews for those hotels and the others on this site.
Bagelgirl,
Another option to think about? Go to the Stonehill College site www.stonehill.edu they have a free shuttle to the ';T';...
The Stonehill shuttle service provides transportation to the Boston ';T'; and surrounding shopping in the area where this lovely college is located.
For instance if you were staying say at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Brockton, MA. it%26#39;s located at 124 Liberty St. you%26#39;d only be a mile up from Stonehill College.
Downtown Boston is about 22 or 23 miles north of the College and this Inn. This Inn has a full breakfast buffet every day, a pool and a spa. The only thing missing is the fitness center, but you could call them to see what they do have? You%26#39;re probably going to be able to have access to the Stonehill College facilities, I bet if you inquire further about it because I%26#39;m sure they wouldn%26#39;t want you to travel all the way from Europe and not have anything available like that for 9 days! I%26#39;d be very surprised if they don%26#39;t have a plan in the works already for you guys, they%26#39;re very good like that at that school!
Good luck, this is just another option to consider before your trip, something to think about and inquire about further.
Bagelgirl,
I found a really good site you could check out for day trips and tours, it has a lot of interesting and fun places to check out around New England. It%26#39;s www.bostonplus.com look on the right hand side of the site and you%26#39;ll see ';New England Day Trips %26amp; Tours'; they have a really good six flags site too www.sixflags.com with ways to get the tickets and staying there over night would be an option to think about, due to the fact that it%26#39;s out in Agawam, MA. which is a few hours drive from the Boston/Easton area, it%26#39;s just another thing to think about...
The boys would probably really like seeing Cape Cod, there%26#39;s a lot to see and do down there and from the Easton area it%26#39;s nothing to get to, it would be good if you could try to get there somehow during the week if at all possible, so you don%26#39;t get stuck in traffic, you don%26#39;t want to head down there on a Friday night and come home on a Sunday afternoon, try to go there early early on one of your mornings when you are ready to do a day trip with them. There%26#39;s a really neat Red Sports Car Museum...in Hyannis I believe it is? You can view it at this site...

Try taking a boat trip to Provincetown, Cape Cod, from Boston Harbor. You%26#39;ll have lots of shops, galleries, and restaurants at your fingertips in provincetown and the day trip on the boat is very relaxing. Be sure to walk through Beacon Hill too and check out the shops and restaurants on Newbury St.
Staying in Boston will be far more interesting and fun than staying in Brockton. Brockton is a not a really nice area, especially the downtown section. Out on the highway near the mall is okay but not much to offer.
Boston is a relatively safe city, very accessible, and walkable. Most of the areas where you would be staying are very safe (Copley Place, Back Bay, the Waterfront, the North End, Qunicy Market.)
If you get a chance to get the boys into town, they would probable enjoy a day kicking around Boston, especially in the Quincy Market area.
