We are spending about 10 days in the cape cod area in July.
Where is a good place to base ourselves so we can drive to see all that the area has to offer. We are also looking for good accommodation (approx $180 per night).
My wife has always wanted to sit on the terrace of a hotel (with a white picket fence) overlooking the Atlantic (with a drink in her hand of course)

Hi Calimerox,
I%26#39;m sure you will get ALL kinds of suggestions on where to stay and what part of the Cape to be in, believe me! But just to get you started? There are some people here on TA that don%26#39;t really like Hyannis but others like me really like it a lot. I get very bored at night if I don%26#39;t have shops, bars with music and restaurants sometimes I can%26#39;t deal with quiet nights when I go down that Cape, I want that night life! Several things about Hyannis that I really like? You can get to the Vineyard and Nantucket for day trips right at the docks, it%26#39;s SO convenient to just walk over to that boat! Another reason? They have Baxter%26#39;s right there too, you can%26#39;t miss it, which is really fun and you can walk around and check out all the other places all in that neat little area near the docks!
You%26#39;ll be there during the height of the season, so it%26#39;ll be crowded no matter where you go, you just have to make up your mind that that%26#39;s the way it is in July. During the week might be a little quieter for you, but NOT much more quieter, trust me when I say this! Because you%26#39;ll hit all the people on their vacations from all over New England and New York! There%26#39;s one place that is rated #1 that you should look in to and think about, it%26#39;s called the Seacoast Inn located at 33 Ocean St. in Hyannis. You can view it online at:
www.seacoastcapecod.com
It%26#39;s located at 33 Ocean St. and there # is 1 800 466-4100. There hasn%26#39;t been one bad review that I could see written about it! It seems that every one that has stayed there all write that they%26#39;re going back there the following year. I have it on my A-list of places to stay whenever I go down that Cape!
Another area of the Cape that%26#39;s really so pretty is New Seabury. Check this site out...www.newseabury.com and click on accommodations to see what you think about staying there, may be you want a more quieter type of place at night.
The Ocean Edge Resort %26amp; Golf Club in Brewster looks AMAZING! It%26#39;s also rated #1 here, it%26#39;s located at 2907 Main St. in Brewster. It%26#39;s got over 700 feet of a private bay-front beach that looks incredible. You can view it at www.oceanedge.com---it%26#39;s positively stunning. I have NO idea what we%26#39;re talking here for rates a night though. (I didn%26#39;t want to look!) That%26#39;s your call with that one! You%26#39;d have to look in to it online or talk to them and see if they have packages for staying there for the nights you%26#39;re going to be there.
A few days ago we were talking about the Brewster By The Sea B%26amp;B. That%26#39;s a beautiful Inn in Brewster that you could view online to see if you might want to stay there. It%26#39;s at www.brewsterbythesea.com of course the prices go RIGHT up starting June 17th which they do at most places at summer places, that%26#39;s the start of there summer season until September 10th. One thing about this Inn, it%26#39;s got great reviews and it%26#39;s near a lot of neat shops and restaurants as well as being a hop, skip and a jump to Chatham where there%26#39;s more shops, the lighthouse, the beautiful seashore and more restaurants to explore.
I think for unbelievable scenery and lovely shops and restaurants from Hyannis all the way down through Yarmouth, down to Chatham area, then Truro down to Provincetown are really really the nicest part of the Cape to be in.
There are a lot of great places in Chatham to stay at. I almost recommended the Hawthorne Motel until I read the latest review on it right here on TA and chalked that idea off! I thought I was reading things, it%26#39;s always gotten great reviews but I guess NOT now, which is too bad, it%26#39;s a lovely place right next to the elaborate Chatham Bars Inn which by the way run in the height of the season from $330 to $1600 a night, so I knew that that was a little out of the ballpark!
If you wanted to be in the Falmouth area instead of this whole part of the Cape? They have the Seacrest Resort that you can view online www.seacrest-resort.com located on Old Silver Beach in Falmouth. It%26#39;s really nice because they have there own private beach. Expensive during the height of the season, but you can view everything on their site and see what you think. One thing about it? You%26#39;d be able to relax and enjoy the beach and there package plans are very good with breakfast and dinners. I have friends that stay there every year.
Well Calimerox, just see what you think about one of these great spots and take a look and view them online. You%26#39;ll get some more suggestions from people that live on the Cape and ones that go there all the time I%26#39;m sure...
Have a good day!

If you%26#39;d like a recommendation for a really comprehensive and up to date book on the Cape rating lodging, dining, beaches etc. and activities let me know. I can%26#39;t tell if you are located in the US where you could get this guide rather easily.
You can%26#39;t beat the Red Inn in Provincetown for a location to look out over the water having a drink. I don%26#39;t think they have the white picket fence however, and the water is Cape Cod Bay, not the Atlantic Ocean. But for accomodations I would suggest something in one of the smaller towns on the outer cape. From there you take day trips anywhere on the cape or catch a boat to the islands form Hynnanis or Woodshole for a day trip. If you want the Atlantic Ocean (not Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound, or Buzzards Bay) you will have to be somewhere on the east side from Chatham, Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet , Truro to Provincetown. Trouble is the east side is all NationalSeashore . I do know that the Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast in Eastham has a cottage with a patio that overlooks the Atlantic. They are, to my knowledge, the only lodging actually in the Naitonal Seashore Park. I have not checked out their TA rating but they do have a wonderful location! Good luck!
We (well really my wife)have now changed our plans and are spending 5 days at the cape, 3 in salem and 3 in between (somewhere} Thanks for replies.
